We are thinking of you all in the Asia Region and wish to share the following information with you. Firstly, empowering through the Internet. Please visit our web site if possible (address below). We have just posted an action sheet, including a violation report on NestlŽ's attempt to weaken Pakistan's proposed law. Please bring this service to the attention of the meeting. Secondly, we have some documents we would like to share with you, if you have not yet seen them. On December 31st 1997 the Interagency Group on Breastfeeding Monitoring (IGBM) issued a statement entitled "Cracking the Code: agencies suspend discussions with infant formula manufacturers." Similarly UNICEF Executive Carol Bellamy wrote to NestlŽ recently stating that "there do not appear to be opportunities for cooperation that would be of mutual benefit to our respective organisations at this time." At our Annual General Meeting on the 17th January 1998 a lawyer gave a presentation on scope for legal action against companies violating the code and resolutions. A press release has been issued on this topic. If you wish to receive these documents then please e-mail a fax number that we can use to send them to you. Wishing you all the best, Mike, Patti, Rosy, Tessa and Lisa. -- Mike Brady Campaigns and Networking Coordinator Baby Milk Action >>>>>> Baby Milk Action, 23 St. Andrew's Street, Cambridge, CB2 3AX, UK Tel: +44 (0)1223 464420 Fax: +44 (0)1223 464417 babymilkacti@gn.apc.org http://www.gn.apc.org/babymilk >>>>>>>
