きょうお集まりのみなさん、日本で、アメリカで、そしてあらゆる所で、よりよい世界のためにたたかっているみなさんにご挨拶を送ります。

私はジョン・ダフ・マッキントッシュともうします。アメリカ東部のウエスト・バージニア州、モーガンタウンに住んでおり、モーガンタウン・ムミア・ディフェンス・コミティーのメンバーです。人々にムミアのことについて知らせる活動を1995年から行っています。ビデオを見せたり、ビラを配布したり、フォーラムを開いたり、デモ行進したりしています。隣のペンシルバニア州にあるムミアが収容されている刑務所で抗議行動をしたりもしています。 ピッツバーグやフィラデルフィアで行われる大きな集会に参加するために赴くこともあります。

事態がどう推移するか分かりませんが、いずれにしてもこれはきわめて重要な事件です。これは、アメリカにおける人種問題、警察の暴力、刑務所産業（における囚人搾取）、死刑制度とのたたかい、さらにこの国における政治的囚人の存在や、彼らに対する非人道的な取り扱いといった諸問題を暴き出しています。

私たちのグループを代表し、あなたがたに、国際的な連帯の挨拶を送ります。

Greetings to all of you today who struggle for a better world, in Japan, the United States and everywhere!

My name is John 'Duff' McIntosh. I am a member of the Morgantown Mumia Defense Committee in Morgantown, West Virginia, in the eastern USA. We have been working here since 1995 to educate people about Mumia. We show videos, hand out fliers, hold forums and we march. On occasion, we have protested at Mumia's prison in nearby Pennsylvania. We have also traveled to the cities of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to join larger rallies.

This is an extremely serious case, no matter what the outcome. It sheds light on the problems of racism, police brutality, the prison-industrial complex, the struggle against the death penalty and on the fact of the existence of political prisoners in the USA and their inhumane treatment.

So, on behalf of my group, I salute you all in friendly international solidarity.
