沖縄米軍の必要性を実感してるのは、日本ではなく韓国
アメリカも日本も、日米安保条約を非常に重視してます。それが端的に表現されたの
が９７
年４月の駐留軍用地特別措置法の国会通過でしょう。沖縄の基地は日米安保条約の
軸、
文字とおりのキーストーンとして存在します。キーストーンがもしもはずれるような
ことがあれ
ば世界の秩序と経済は保てません。
また言いますが、沖縄には地政学的に非常な重要な意味があります。那覇を中心に半
径
２千キロの円を描くと東は東京、そして北は朝鮮半島から南は海南島まで中国大陸の
枢要
な地域が全部入ります。距離２千キロとは爆撃機が往復できる有効行動半径です。ア
メリカ
軍が沖縄にいればこそ、この有効行動円内の安定が保てます。アメリカはこの点を非
常に
注視してます。また、アジア諸国の中でこの認識をはっきり持ってるのがじつは日本
でなく
韓国です。その当時の社民・さきがけの政策担当者が訪韓しましたが、韓国側は金東
鎮国
防相も金泳三大統領も「沖縄の米軍は必要だ、削減には反対だ」こう明言しました。
朝鮮半島の安定は、沖縄駐留米軍の存在を抜きにはありえない。また、日本の安全に
とって
も必要だということは、戦時国家（朝鮮半島はあくまで休戦中）の韓国だからこそリ
アルに認識
できます。いま沖縄で高まりを見せる「独立論者」が北朝鮮の脅威をまったく感じて
いないか、
不当に低く評価しているのとは対照的です。事実をみればこう見えます。
