The Beijing + 5 Review has demonstrated that many obligations were not fulfilled and that there is a need to continue monitoring progress, developing strategies to address the gaps and respond to the emerging challenges and most importantly to formulate programmes and put mechanisms and resources in place to persevere in achieving women's full equality and development. Holding a Fifth World Conference on Women in 2005 will provide such an opportunity. A world conference on women would also provide an invaluable opportunity for women's NGOs to participate in assessing implementation of the States' obligations as well as in jointly designing of future development with our respective governments. This event has traditionally proven to be a significant factor in the strengthening of the women's movement globally. We therefore call upon the delegates attending this meeting to support the holding of the Fifth World Conference on Women in 2005 so as to further the gains of the past world conferences and women and achieve women's full equality and development. _________________________________________________________________________ fem-Women2000@jca.apc.org for Women 2000, UN Special Session on Beijing+5 Searcheable Archive http://www.jca.apc.org/fem/news/women2000/index.shtml visit fem-net HomePage for other mailing lists http://www.jca.apc.org/fem
