HIGHLIGHTS OF NGO PLANS AT THE 45th SESSION OF THE UN COMMISSION ON THE 
STATUS OF WOMEN, MARCH 616th, 2001, NEW YORK. 

1. WHERE TO FIND INFORMATION ON CSW ACTIVITIES: As IWTC will not be 
producing a "CSW 2001 Book of Days" (otherwise known as "The Pink 
Book"), this edition of GlobalNet highlights a number of NGO activities 
planned for the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UN/CSW), 6-16 
March, 2001 at UN headquarters in New York. In addition, a daily 
calendar of events taking place in UN headquarters during the CSW  is 
being coordinated by the UN/Division for the Advancement of Women 
(UN/DAW) and will be available March 1st on the DAW website: 
http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw.

2. NEW IWTC PUBLICATIONS TO SUPPORT WOMEN担 ADVOCACY TO BE LAUNCHED AT 
CSW. 1) IWTC Postview 2000 (24 pages), with information on: the Beijing 
+ 5 Outcomes Document; issues, activities and agenda of the CSW 2001; 
HIV/AIDS; Racism; the CSW multi-year programme; global campaigns; 
time-line for UN review sessions; UN Meetings; and NGO global meetings: 
2) IWTC Women痴 Score Book (16 pages), provides current numbers and 
statistics gleaned from various sources related to the following issues: 
Women and HIV/AIDS; Women in Government; and countries who have 
signed/ratified the optional protocol to CEDAW. This information is 
presented country-by-country (by region), and is intended to support 
women痴 participation in various international meetings, e.g., the UN 
Special Session on HIV/AIDs, Financing for Development  and global 
campaigns, e.g. WEDO 50/50 campaign. 

3. EVENTS DURING FIRST WEEK OF THE CSW INCLUDE:

Monday March 5th, 2001: 
逼GO CONSULTATION. 9:00 am-5:00 pm. English, French and Spanish 
interpretation. The Consultation this year will be held at the NYU 
Medical School, 550 First Avenue at 30th Street, New York.  
Pre-Registration is required ($35.00 fee). The programme will include: 
Part I:  Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective. Part II:  Panel on Racism. 
Moderator: Dr. Dubravka Simonovic, Chair, UN Commission on the Status of 
Women. Part III:  Panel on HIV/AIDS. Moderator: Angela E.V. King, UN 
Assistant Secretary-General, Special Adviser on Gender Issues and 
Advancement of Women. Part IV:  Five Years Forward Plans for the CSW. 
Presented by Yakin Erturk, Director, UN/DAW. Part V:  Breakout Sessions: 
 HIV/AIDS, Racism, 5-year plan for the C.S.W. Part VI:  Concluding 
Plenary Session. Breakout Session Reports and next steps. Sponsored by

:30 am-6:00 pm.  WOMEN, INK. BONANZA BOOK SALE -to sell overstocked 
items. New books from the new 2001 Women, Ink. catalogue will be 
available for sale every day during the CSW.

:00-8:00 pm. WOMEN, INK. BOOK LAUNCH AND RECEPTION:
Two new books: "With an End in Sight" (UNIFEM) and "Chrysalis" -a 
training manual from Winrock International, will be launched. This 
reception is open to all and will be held at the IWTC/ Women, Ink.

逼GO ARTISAN MARKET: Anyone bringing crafts or other artisan goods may 
participate. Display tables will be provided. Each person must handle

Thursday, 8 March 2001: International Women痴 Day (IWD): 
THE THEME OF IWD 2001 IS "WOMEN AND PEACE."

疋igital Art Contest and Exhibit ion Theme of Women and Peace: The UN 
International Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) invites 
their Gender Awareness Information and Networking System (GAINS) 
platform of networks, colleagues and the public at large to submit 
original art works in digital formats related to the theme of "Women and 
Peace". The winning piece will be exhibited on the INSTRAW/GAINS home 
page during the month of March and widely disseminated during IWD 
celebrations at the UN. Art can be photographs, drawings, paintings, 
computer graphics. Deadline for submission: February 25, 2001. Contact

by the Women痴 International League for Peace and Freedom and the 
Women痴 Caucus for Gender Justice. To celebrate the historic summary 
judgement issued in Tokyo at the Women痴 International War Crimes 
Tribunal. Featured speakers include: Gabrielle Kirk McDonald, former 
President of the International War Crimes Tribunal on the Former 
Yugoslavia, Yayori Matsui, Violence Against Women in War Network, 
(VAWW-NET Japan), a former "Comfort Woman", members from the NYC Asian
