IWTC WOMEN'S GLOBALNET #161 Initiatives and Activities of Women Worldwide by Anne S. Walker November 20, 2000 CONNECTING WOMEN GLOBALLY FOR SOCIAL CHANGE! LAUNCHING OF NEW IWTC WEB-SITE! Today, November 20, 2000, IWTC is launching it痴 new web-site at: http://www.iwtc.org Designed as a women and development information and resources centre for women activists and advocates worldwide, the site will initially focus on the Beijing Platform for Action (PFA) and Beijing Plus Five follow-up plans and policies. Chapters from the soon-to-be-published IWTC manual "Women! Policy! Action! A Community Action Guide to the Platform for Action" are featured, with a summarized form of the PFA Strategic Objectives and Actions for each Critical Area of Concern plus obstacles and challenges added at the Beijing plus Five meetings in June 2000, and lists of web-sites and publications. WomenWatch: The UN Internet Gateway for the Advancement and Empowerment of Women. Partners include: DAW; UNIFEM; ILO; INSTRAW; UNESCO; UNDP/GIDP; SNDP; World Bank; and Instituto de la Mujer WhrNET/Women痴 Human Rights Network: A collaborative project developed by an international coalition of women's human rights organizations, with the primary aim of strengthening advocacy for women's human rights through the effective utilization of information and communication technologies. IWTC痴 women and development publications marketing and dissemination service INSTRAW/GAINS The Gender Awareness Information and Networking System (GAINS) of the UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women, a "one stop" web-based electronic system for producing, managing and disseminating gender related knowledge and information; conducting collaborative research on emerging gender issues; facilitating consultations and dialogue between different stakeholders on global critical issues using a gender perspective; and training and capacity building on women and gender issues. Mapping the World. A project of the International Information Centre and Archives of the Women's Movement (IIAV) Amsterdam, The Netherlands, this is a database of women's information services available throughout the world, and aims to increase the visibility of women's information services, and to facilitate access to gender-specific information. NGO Regional Groups One of 3 special green circle, this one links to groups in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean. Middle East and North America NGO Global Groups The second of the green circles links to almost 100 major international groups that deal with women and development issues and concerns UN and International Agencies The final green circle links to governmental agencies from the European Union to the World Bank, including United Nations Departments and Specialized Agencies Please let us know your thoughts on this new web-site.
