Chairperson: Sheila Wamahiu (WERK and UNICEF Education Advisor). The World Education Forum meeting in Dakar in April 2000 reaffirmed the target of eliminating gender disparities in primary and secondary education by 2005. Yet gender gaps in education have not narrowed significantly and indeed have grown even larger in some countries since this target was set. Panellists will be discussing strategies to meet the 2005 target, including the changes to the Further Actions and Initiatives text -- recommended in the Elimu lobby paper -- that must be achieved if the final document is to have any impact at all on national policy. The Elimu lobby paper will be circulated during the meeting. Elimu is an international South-North network of people working for free compulsory quality education for all.
