-------- Original Message -------- Subject: [ngo-csw-ny] More information about the Special Session -- Media outreach and call for volunteers Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 08:00:15 -0400 From: "Leslie Wright" <ngo_csw_ny@hotmail.com> This information below about the Communications Consortium has been sent to the NGO Committee on the Status of Women and other organizations, and I am sharing it with you since you may, in fact, be prepring press/media strategies with your organiizations that may be useful for the Consortium to know about. They can help you with reporters and interviews. Please contact CONGO if you plan to have someone attend either of these meetings. Also, CONGO is in need of volunteers to assist during the June 2 outdoor event at Dag Hammarskjold Park, the June 3 Working Session (all day at the UN, and for registered attendees of the Special Session only) and during the Special Session. If you can volunteer, or if you know of anyone who can volunteer, please contact CONGO. They can be reached email at congongo@aol.com You may also wish to visit the CONGO website at www.conferenceogngos.org The Host Committee is also seeking volunteers. Volunteers must be able to work 6 hour shifts (9 am to 3 pm or 3 pm to 9 pm) doing various jobs. They need volunteers to work in two segments -- from May 30 to June 4, and from June 5 to 9. If you are interested, please fax to 212 337 2394. To find out about events throughout New York that are complementary to the Special Session please visit the Host Committee website at www.beijingplus5hostcomm.com If you know of someone who may wish to volunteer, please share the above information with them as have them contact the organizations directly. We may have our own NGO Committee event. If we do, I will let you know soon! Many thanks for all your help -- I am sure this June will be a great experience. Leslie Wright, Chair NGO Committee on the Status of Women Communications Consortium Meeting As you may know, the Communications Consortium has been working with CONGO, the US Host Committee, select UN agencies and others who support the Platform for Action, to develop a collaborative media outreach effort. We will also be facilitating two NGO media centers during the upcoming Beijing+5 activities in New York in early June, one at the Church Center and another at the Custom House at Battery Park. We would like to share with you the status of our efforts, plans for the June UNGASS and some of the technical services we will be providing NGOs and others who support the Platform for Action. We have been asked to do the same session in both New York and Washington. Here are the times and locations to help cut travel costs. Tuesday, May 16, 3:00 pm at the Church Center at the United Nations, 8th Floor (East 44th and First Avenue) in New York City. Wednesday, May 17, 10:00 am at the American Association for the Advancement of Science Building, Revelle Room, Second Floor, 1200 New York Avenue, NW (enter at 12th and H Streets NW) in Washington, DC. _________________________________________________________________________ fem-Women2000@jca.apc.org for Women 2000, UN Special Session on Beijing+5 Searcheable Archive http://www.jca.apc.org/fem/news/women2000/index.shtml visit fem-net HomePage for other mailing lists http://www.jca.apc.org/fem
