Thank you! * ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Press release - 23/02/00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WomenAction to the Commission on the Status of Women in New York >from February 28-March 17, 2000. February 24 -- Women Action 2000, a network of 30 national, regional and international organisations working on women, communications and media will participate in the Beijing+5 activities at the 44th regular session of the CSW (Commission on the Status of Women),at the UN headquarters in New York from February 28-March 17, 2000. WomenAction will report on the daily activities of the CSW session and produce daily updates of news and views on-line and on paper. The focus will be UN meetings, parallel NGO sessions, a calendar of events, interviews, and examples of women using ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) to network and influence policy makes. The online texts will be accessible in full, while the daily paper will have summaries or highlights. Both will be available online on the WomenAction global site (http://www.womenaction.org) and each region can insert its own flash in the regional site. Listings will be in English and French. WomenAction will staff a cyber/internet cafe at the Church Centre for the UN, located across the street from the UN, as part of the CONGO (Conference of NGOs in Consultative Status with the UN)hospitality Centre. This will allow women attending the CSW sessions access to Internet for timely communication with networks back home. Women Action will participate in a women and media caucus, focusing attention on Section J of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) adopted at the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women. Otherwise, from March 6th through March 10th., WomenAction will provide a linkage to the Global Knowledge Conference in Malaysia via bulletins on the website, and a sidebar in the daily newsletter.
