Gender discrimination in the workplace is not limited to Japan. At this
symposium experts from four industrialized democracies - the US, Japan,
Germany, and Canada - will examine 1) what challenges and opportunities a
fluctuating economy presents to working women, 2) what has been or should
be done to create a more gender-equal work environment, and 3) how laws can
serve as instruments of reform.
