1. はじめに （現地時間 10月2日 10:12:31 発）
ご無沙汰しております。ブッシュの戦争政策に対するアメリカ内の運動は、少しずつはじまり、いま急に拡がる気配です。ぼくも二十年ぶりに、そして女房は三十年ぶりぐらいに、せっせと集会なりデモなりに出るようになりました。ぼくは、会議にもでて発言するなり、なんらかの形で運動内部の活動もするつもりです。
かつての日本のべ平連の仲間に、三通ほどの報告メールを送りました。

2. アメリカの反戦の動きなど （現地時間 10月2日 10:13:08 発）
日本ですでに報道されていると思いますが、ゴア元副大統領が先週の講演で、ブッシュの戦争推進政策を批判したし、数日前には、エドワード・ケネディ上院議員がこれも、ブッシュを批判した。やっとと言うべきか。ついに、と言うべきか。
これは日本で報道されているかどうか、アメリカでも反対のデモの動きがだんだんと始まっています。ぼくも女房も、２０年ぶりに、できるだけ集会に出たりデモに出たり、会議に出たりするようにしています。これはこの一ヶ月ほどですが。
アメリカ政府は、間違いなく戦争を始める。理由は、イラクにあるのではなくて、アメリカ政府にある、相手がどう出ようが、ヨーロッパがどう出ようが、強引にやるでしょう。大変なことになる。
というわけで、６０年代、７０年代の青年たちは、ふたたび街に出るつもりになっている。これは私たちだけのことではありません。
若い世代は、反戦運動の訓練はなしですが、環境運動など経験、あるいはその経験がなくてもそれを分かち合う気分があり、そこから新たな反戦デモがはじまる可能性があります。
１９６５年の北爆のあとのように、アメリカで日本で、その他の国々でベトナム反戦がはじまり、それが６０年代後半からの政治と文化になっていったように、いま何かがここで始まらないと、それがブッシュの時代、アメリカにはびこるバカげた愛国主義をひっくりかえさないと、少なくとも歯止めをかけないと、大変なことになる。
以下に、この数日、友人のクレア（彼女はぼくより少し若い世代のばりばりの活動家）から送られてきた（転送されてきた）メールの一部をコピーして送ります。
最初にそれぞれの記事の要約を日本語で書いておきます。
最初の記事は、９月２５日にミネソタで、ミネソタ出身の上院議員のオフィスを非暴力反戦平和グループの数十人が訪れて、ブッシュが提出している戦争決議案に反対するようにと、立ち退かなかったとのこと。このグループは座り込んだのだと思う。カソリックの尼僧を含む４人が逮捕されました。
次の記事は、９月２８日にロンドン行われた、３５万人の戦争反対の大デモに関して。数字に関しては、２５万という人もあり、４０万以上という人もあり。ともかくこれは、これは過去３０年で、最大規模の反戦デモであるらしい。
記事の中で「最近の世論調査によれば、英国民の７０パーセントが、アメリカ主導の軍事行動に反対している」と書いてあります。日本でも報道されていると思いますが、この詳しい記事をお読みください。大デモの記事は感動的です。デモを行った各団体は、１０月３１日に同じようなデモを、またロンドンで行おうと呼びかけている。
次は、PEOPLE'S NONVIOLENT RESPONSE COALITION (PNVRC)のニュースから。PNVRCはイーストベイ（わたしが住んでいるバークレー・オークランド地域）を中心としたサンフランシスコ・ベイエリアの運動です。１０月６日の日曜に、サンフランシスコのユニオン・スクエアに集まれ、ということです。ベイエリア各運動にこのニュースはまわっています。ユニオン・スクエアは観光地です。そこに集まって、戦争反対で埋め尽くそうことです。集会でもないし、デモでもない。これまでのサンフランシスコ湾地域での最大のイラク攻撃反対のイベントになるでしょう。ぼくも女房も、友人を誘って行く。
次もPEOPLE'S NONVIOLENT RESPONSE COALITION (PNVRC)のニュースから。
イラクへの戦争に反対する国際行動です。１０月２６日。最初の呼びかけがどこから出たのか知りません。また重要でもない。インターネットで、呼びかけが飛び交い、アメリカ各地、このニュースでは首都ワシントンＤＣとサンフランシスコで大デモが企画されているとのこと。詳しくは、記事に載っているリンクを参照。またＧｏｏｇｌｅでサーチすると、いろいろと出てくるはずです。
別の友人からのメールによれば、イギリス、アイルランド、カナダ、ドイツ、イタリア、フランス、ニュージーランドで、この国際行動日にデモがあるようです。この記事には出ていませんが、その友人によれば、アメリカではロサンジェルスでもデモがあるとのこと。まだ日にちがあるので、これはもっと拡がるでしょう。今度の反戦運動は、インターネットを通信メディアとして、人が街に出ていく運動となります。日本ではその日に、何か企画されていますか。ちょうどそのころ、ぼくは日本にいるので知りたい。

Peace activists demand Minnesota representatives pledge to \'say no to
war\'. 4 people arrested in St. Paul.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
Dozens of protesters visited the home offices of Minnesota\'s congressional
delegation Tuesday to demand that the lawmakers promise to vote against
President Bush\'s request for a resolution authorizing war against Iraq.
At U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum\'s office in St. Paul, four people, including a
Roman Catholic nun, were arrested on trespassing charges after they refused
to leave the office at 5:30 p.m.

Historic Anti-War March in London

Tony Blair may be President Bush's only European ally in his drive for war
on Iraq. But the people of the UK today forcibly demonstrated their
opposition to forcible regime change.
This afternoon, at least 350,000 people from all over the United Kingdom
descended upon the corridors of power
for a massive and peaceful "Don't Attack Iraq/Freedom for Palestine" march
and rally.
As I file this report at 4 p.m., less than half the march, which commenced
at 12:30 p.m., has arrived at the
Hyde Park Rally.
The action was the largest of its kind in the UK in 30 years. It was
dramatic, and so large that it was truly
impossible to guage its size. Certainly it numbered in the hundreds of
thousands of people of every ethnicity,
age and class.
Recent polls show that 70 percent opposed Britain joining a U.S.-led
military action. "There is not just
opposition to the prospect of war--there is boiling >anger," asserts Andrew
Murray, chair of the Stop the War
Coalition.
The turnout was a shot across the bow of Prime Minister Tony Blair and a
preview of next weeks Labor Party
Conference.
The demonstration was jointly sponsored by the Stop the War Coalition and
the Muslim Association of Britain. It
was endorsed by 12 national trade unions, numerous Muslim and anti-racist
organizations, Members of Parliament and the Mayor of London.
Organizers have called for another massive "Don't Attack Iraq Day" for Oct.
31.
"Opposition to this war in this country is the most incredible coalition I
have ever seen," says Jeremy Corbyn, a Labor MP.
"Since Sept. 11, Islamophobia has spread across the UK and activated the
Muslim and South Asian populations," said Asad Rehman, national organizer
for the Stop the War Coalition and chairman of the Newham Monitoring
Project. South Asians are the largest group of color in the UK, numbering
about 15 percent in London alone.
"I didn't go on earlier demonstrations but I am now because the countdown to
war has started and I find it terrifying," explained march Jemma Redgrave.
Robert "3-D" Del Naja of the pop group Massive Attack says "I am marching
because I feel very disheartened about our government and the way it reacts
to America and American foreign policy."
Meanwhile, in Parliament, Labor Party members are staging a revolt against
Blair's Iraq policy. They warn that the 56-strong rebellion of this week is
just a warm up. Blair also faces powerful opposition at next week's national
Labor Party conference.
Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, the third largest
in the UK, declared his opposition to
>what he called the U.S.'s "imperialist" policy.

Ａｃｒｏｂａｔリーダーはただですが（みんな持っているでしょう）、PDFファイルを作るためには、Acrobatを何万円かだして買わないといけない。だけどこれを買ってビラを作れば、自分でもプリントアウトできるし、メールの添付で送るとか、ホームページにアップロードしておけば、世界中の誰にでもが、それを自分のプリンターでプリントアウトして、人に渡すことができる。
昔々、ガリ版輪転機はすごいと思ったし、ゼロックスはすごいと思ったし、ＤＴＰがでてきたときも、これは革命的なり、と思ったが、Ａｃｒｏｂａｔはすでに10年もこの世の中にあって、ぼくは年がら年中、これでソフトのマニュアルなんかを読んでいたが、こうやれば運動に使える。当たり前のことだ。知らなかったのは、ぼくだけか。
なお、いまのＡｃｒｏｂａｔは、英語版でも日本語版でも、国際各国語対応のはずです。こういうことは、川崎さんのほうがずっと詳しいだろう。

involvedでは、これの賛同人・賛同団体になるフォームとか、ワシントンＤＣに各州の各都市から集まれ、ということなので各都市単位でワシントンＤＣに行く人をオーガナイズするセンターなり責任者ができつつあって、それのリストとか、それになるためのフォームとかが載っているし、それぞれの地域での高校・大学・組合・コミュニティセンターなどで、アメリカ・イラク問題のこれまでの経過についての講演を求む人は、ここに連絡されたし、などということが書いてある。
その他、いろいろあり。
26日のヨーロッパの動きはよく知りません。たしかこの呼びかけは、ヨーロッパからきたものだとおもうのだけど。サーチエンジンのＧｏｏｇｌｅでいくつかのキーワードを入れて調べてみても、あんまりたくさん出てくるので、分からない。英語以外の言葉でやらないとだめなのか、Ｇｏｏｇｌｅがまだまだ馬鹿なのか、ぼくの使い方がへたなせいか。
